Introduction
You may be wondering, "Can I use special characters or accented characters in my keyword targets or campaign names?" and "Are the rules the same in our app as they are on Amazon?"
Our rules regarding special characters are consistent with Amazon's.
Let's review these rules, focusing on both keywords and entity names (campaign and ad group).
Valid Characters for Keywords
Below is a chart of valid characters Amazon accepts for keywords.
Constraints on Keyword Characters
You can use spaces within a keyword, but leading or trailing spaces are prohibited.
You cannot use quotation marks in your keyword targets. For example, in the keyword iphone "15 pro max" charger, the phrase "15 pro max" within quotation marks will not be valid.
The period (.) character can only be placed in the middle of keywords or within spaces.
When using the hyphen (-) or plus (+) characters, they can only be placed in the middle of keywords and must not have spaces around them. This restriction applies only to keywords; campaign names do not have this limitation.
If your terms include the special forward slash (/) character, the Amazon system will ignore it. For example, if you have keywords intended to capture sizes like "1/2" or "1/4," the system may instead recognize them as "12" or "14."
The maximum length for a keyword is 80 characters.
A positive keyword can have a maximum of 10 parts.
A negative keyword can have up to 4 parts.
For the Negative Exact match type, a negative keyword can contain up to 10 parts.
Other valid characters include:
å or Å
Additionally, characters within the following Unicode ranges are permitted:
{　 to ゟ}
{゠ to ヿ}
{一 to 鿿}
{＀ to ￯}
This means that hiragana, katakana, and kanji characters are also allowed in keywords.
Valid Characters for Entity Name
Below is a chart of valid characters Amazon accepts for campaign and ad group names.
Constraints on Entity Name Characters
You can use spaces within an entity name, but leading or trailing spaces are not allowed.
The maximum length for a campaign name is 128 characters for sellers and 116 characters for vendors.
The maximum length for an ad group name is 255 characters.
Other valid characters include those within the following Unicode ranges:
{　 to ゟ}
{゠ to ヿ}
{一 to 鿿}
{＀ to ￯}
This means that hiragana, katakana, and kanji characters are also allowed in keywords.
